Starting as a 'church on the street', our mission has been to bring the fullness of church body to people living on the fringes of society -in a way that meets them where they are in their experiences and worldviews, bridging socio economic and educational inequities. Many churches, doing great work, have the need to be supported by the community to cover the costs of running the church. We are the opposite; here the community is supported by the church.

Our Vision

Our name, communitas, is a long one, but we love it! It's Latin and its definition is "a community of people with a mission beyond themselves".

We are a community that looks into the world with hearts that genuinely care about people, poverty, suffering, and the protection of this planet and see what we can do. To create a place to gather in a casual, informal way with others of all walks, ask questions of what the Bible says and what following Jesus looks like in our current situations.

We want to make impact.

We want to use our talents, gifts and resources along with others to see if we can make a difference.

We want to have a mission beyond ourselves.

For the past five years we have been meeting on the street corner of W7th and Smith Ave, welcoming all who come, providing a meal, bus cards and other needs as appropriate (winter boots, coats, gloves, hygiene items, canned goods etc) . Today, we have gone inside, meeting at a church one block from the corner, knowing our community needed a place of rest and safe from the outside elements.

Our Statement of Faith

We believe that Jesus is the son of God, the Word made flesh, the One who brings salvation to all. The more we lean into discovering what that looks like within our lives, the more we can experience His Kingdom on earth and with one another. The bible and holy spirit are our guides. Love God, Love yourself, Love others. Evil exists, clothe yourselves with armor.
